concept & vision
doing and undoing, we conceive our intervention as a long line, a single axis running through the entire apartment, peeling parting walls, reconnecting spaces, letting the old wood framing hold new functions
program & use
in the kitchen/living room, the revealed wooden structure acts as a visual screen between the two areas and as a support for bared appliances: the refrigerator is hinged to swing in and out; the stovetop held up by police barricades; tubing riveted to a metal store sign as a counter with buried answering machine and revolving telephone; oven, fan operated hood, TV set, are all hanging from the wood frame. Opposite to them, over the sink, pulleys and magnets activate the square metal sheet doors of the cabinet.
in the bedroom, the revealed vertical stud frames is contrasted by simple horizontal wood strips screening the walk-in closet with shelves, shoe and clothing racks, collapsible ironing board and a pivoting stool
impact & significance
all is found, all is collected by us - mostly after a storm in the meatpacking where we have our studio at the time - all is repurposed. Also, all is handcrafted by our four inexperienced hands, with great care and a strong will to test. We disclose, we expose, we write and instruct, we embrace existing text and graphics of found signage. This is where we begin to test
